The group’s objective for the project is to design and fabricate a toy for autistic children that will help develop the skills they lack due to their deficiency. Autistic children have difficulty interacting with others, completing every day activities, and have severe sensory issues. The toy being developed by the team focuses on building these skills through various activities. To do this, the team began by conducting research on autism, with each group member focusing on a different aspect of the deficiency.
Autism is a multifaceted neurological disorder that affects the four fundamental areas of sensory processing, communication mechanisms, elusive social interaction skills, and whole child/self-esteem. In the United States alone it is estimated that 1 in every 50 children has autism, which translates to about $3.2 million per person in additional medical expenses over their lifetime.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurological brain disorder that impairs the small things we take for granted every day. We’re able to understand and interact with our surroundings, say hello, socialize and greet others. All these small things we do naturally, autism takes it away. It takes place within the first three years of life which may be due to genetic disorders but unfortunately, no underlying cause has been yet diagnosed but treatments for the symptoms are here to alleviate the pain. With autism, the many complex regions of the brain fail to properly work together.
